Tiger Cub (T20) 1956
The Tiger Cub emerged for the 1956 season with a number of changes. On the previous model it had been found after prolonged hard use, the engine temperature was getting too hot. So part way through this year, cooling fins appeared on the inlet rocker box.
Another 'problem' although not for many enthusiastic owners, was the fact the Tiger Cub was actually quite loud in the silencing department and what was a great noise to many did cause some concern at the factory. In an effort to cure this, a silencer with a greater volume was introduced midway through the year (and in fact larger still over the next two years).

Still carrying its Shell Blue Sheen and black colour scheme towards the end of the previous year, a new larger (broader and flatter) fuel tank had been introduced (up to a full three gallons capacity). Another really noticeable change was to the wheel sizes. Gone were the 19 inch to be replaced with 16 inch items carrying 3.25 x 16 tyres front and rear. They were to give this model its nickname of 'The Chubby Cub'. Finally a slightly different shape oil tank with the filler cap moved to a more central position, had increased its capacity slightly although the capacity remained unchanged in the specifications. |
