Tiger Cub (T20) 1957
It was all change for the 1957 model. Gone was the plunger suspension and grease lubricated front forks. The one piece plunger frame had been replaced by a new 'bolt together' swing-arm design, where a rear section that contained the seat loop and top shock absorber mountings bolted to a front loop with the steering head, engine and swing-arm mountings on it.
Two brackets were also fitted one either side of the frame to further support the swing-arm pivot point and hold the rear footrests, silencer fixing point on the right and sidestand fixing point on the left. One other thing to appear on the frame mid-year was a steering lock for the first time. |
The plunger rear suspension had been replaced, so it was only fitting the front forks should come in for improvement too. Up until now the forks had been grease filled but for 1957, new hydraulic telescopic forks appeared, which when combined with the swing-arm rear suspension, gave the rider (and passenger) a much more comfier ride.
A new colour scheme was introduced with Crystal Grey and black replacing the previous year's Shell Blue Sheen. For the first year since the model's introduction, the centre of the chrome wheel rims were also now devoid of matching paint.
